I love days off.....
There was a long period of time in my life (high school through college) that I thought bruises all over your body were cool and wanted to show them off. Now that I am a little older I realize how crazy that was there is nothing sexy about a big ol bruise or in my case numerous littering your arms and knees. The initial training camp soreness is over and now it is a much more managable pain that I wake up to each and every morning! My routine is pretty much the same here every day today was an afternoon off and I went to get a pedicure with two other girls. It was a great decision sitting in that massage chair getting someone to rub my sore bruised feet was genius. Tonight I am going out to dinner with Michelle I got to see her last night we grabbed coffee and some dessert so much fun to catch up I wish I could see more of my sisters I just love them! I am also super psyced to eat out although this trip has been good in that I have tried all sorts of vegetarian foods and turns out I love them, chickpeas, beans and tofu are really good.
I really like infomercials I am proud to admit it because I found the magic bullet that way and P90X is another one that has spiked my interests to say the least. One of our assistants and managers has been on it and today AFTER practice they decided we should do the "ab ripper" when you practice twice a day there is always going to be a general fatigue in your legs. The first 3 exercises are all centered around pulling your legs in or holding them out in other words for our whole team it turned into a hip and quad ripper. Still burning from it a little in fact, but I did really like the exercises and will try to implement them into my workouts.

Training camp is officially underway! I am not going to lie I am sore... there is no way to replicate being hit and playing basketball except doing it in games! I am hoping tomorrow is the hump day and if I make it through that it will all start to feel better. Camp has been going okay it has been frustrating trying to get back in the swing of things I have been struggling with patience I am praying for some to come quickly!
I am reading a very interesting book right now though it is called In Defense of Food. It talks a lot about the Western diet and how our nutrition has changed over the years into what he calls "orthorexia: people with an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating." So true we buy into all the diet and low fat fads that come out and find out a few years down the road that they were not that good for us. Here is a little tidbit from the book about Sucrose
"Only the power of sugar lobby in Washington can explain the fact that the official U.S recommendation for the maximum permissible level of free sugars in the diet is an eye popping 25 percent of daily calories. To give you some idea just how permissive that is, the WHO recommends that no more than 10% of daily calories come from added sugars, a benchmark that the U.S sugar lobby has worked furiously to dismantle. In 2004 it enlisted the Bush state department in a campaign to get the recommendation changed and has threatened to lobby Congress to cut WHO funding unless the Organization recants. Perhaps we should be grateful that the saturated fat interests have as yet organized no such lobby.
It has me thinking about what to buy the next time I head out for groceries that is for sure!

Switching up our normal Friday night routine Ben and I headed to Boston for the day to meet up with some of Ben's friends. Ben showed me around Harvard really cool campus and fun to check out walk around it a little. Walking around college campuses always makes me want to go back to school... what I would study I have no idea but I do miss it!! We ate dinner in the North End of Boston where they have amazing Italian restaurants every few feet, the food was amazing! We watched some of the basketball games and Sox game and then headed back to CT.
I had been trying to think of something to get Ben's family for putting up with me all these months and I know they love seafood so I was going to go to the local fish market and get some lobsters. I have never bought lobsters before I think they taste disgusting although before heading into the store I said I would try them again, maybe my taste changed as I got older. Then I walked in and call me naive (Ben did) but I thought they would be dead. As I asked the clerk how many I needed to feed 5-6 people he started pulling these creppy crawlers right out of the water, they were flipping and squirming I felt terrible for them. I am glad Ben was there though because then this guy pulls out a mammoth sized lobster and said this always looks impressive on your table I was like sure I like impressing people. Apparently that sucker would have cost me around 150. I ended up only buying two mostly because I was so thrown off when he didn't knock out lobster but put the live thing right into a bag and handed it to me. The whole drive home I was weary of the lobster breaking free from the bag and attacking me. It was not what I intended but at least his parents got some lobster, I heard it was good there was not a chance I was going to eat that after my experience.
I have also been trying to find health insurance for China, since I don't have my BC medical anymore I am not covered by Canada ball and any insurance I look for is above and beyond your provincial health. I tried to go through my american health but since I am not a US citizen I can't go that route... I need to figure out what I am and where I live. I am heading into camp Monday time has flown by this week, I need to get packing tomorrow!

I have been taking it easy for the last 10 days started feeling a little or a lot of pain in my ankle/shin area so I delegated myself to the pool! I have told stories of the rec center before all the older people coming up to chat or just watching from the window... a little creepy. Here are a few of the comments I received once I started swimming:
I thought you were swimming in your underwear.... not underwear like mine but my grandaughter's bright colours.
I swim in bathing suit bottoms and I wear a rash guard I am not going to go out and buy a bathing suit just to workout in but I do have to say I am fully covered compared to the numerous worn bathing suits I have seen come through!
Are you a synchronized swimmer?
I can honestly say this is the first time I have ever been confused for a synchro swimmer.
You must have run a full mile already?
I normally just put on a vest and do water running.
Today I had a lady come over to say that she was going to race me......
I must look like a really social person when I go to the gym because people always want to chat with me.
The good news is that after working out only in the water the last 10 days I have noticed significant improvement in my foot! I was attempting to self diagnose and was freaking out that I had a stress fracture but I am thinking/hoping it is just a little overuse tendonitis or shin splints and I will be ready to go come camp next week.
Went to the drive in Friday night and saw Angels and Demons and absolutely loved it would go and watch it again. The second movie was Obsessed and by the end of the movie there were maybe 8 cars left in the lot I think they all left because it was terrible. I would not recommend it but that is the great thing about the drive in I still got my moneys worth!

25!
I can now rent a car without extra charges! I spent my birthday just like any 16 year old at the DMV trying to get a CT license. The people there were no help despite me telling them that I lived there they saw a visa from California and told me I needed a cali license but I can't drive more than 60 days in CT without a CT license. I was denied two times the second after going home to get a whole bunch of new papers but they were not in the mood to help me out. The immigration lawyer told us that things would be easier if I had a CT license but I guess we will have to go the hard way! After we got back from the gym we had a nice dinner at the house complete with birthday cake and presents!
The Canucks lost in OT but game 5 is back at GM place so things are still looking okay!
Heading into Boston tomorrow for a Sox game!

DC
Friday morning Ben and I loaded up the car and headed out to DC for Ben's college roomate's wedding. The drive was not too bad it took about 6 hours. We checked into our hotel and headed over to Georgetown there was a great little street that we walked up and down and I finally got to eat some Mexican food again!! Later that night we headed out to a bar to meet up with people going to the wedding. Saturday morning we were up early to hang out in DC, all the Smithsonian museums are free and parking on Saturdays was also free so it was a great morning. We went to the air and space museum and then spent some time at the American history museum. The wedding started at 430 and it was a lot of fun the reception was at the top of this apartement building in Arlington Virginia. It has amazing views of DC unfourtantly my brand new camera was dropped right on the lens and it would not close or take any more pictures. It was a fun night and I somehow fixed the camera the next day by shoving it back into place so I was able to take a picture of the terrible traffic we sat in on the drive home; it took about 8.5 hours to get home Sunday night!
Today was my meeting with the immigration lawyer and the good news is that I can stay in CT until training camp starts at the end of May. The bad news is that I can't work here at all this summer which is too bad I was hoping to do some camps but I guess that will not be the case.
